Once Someones Gone

(Long Version Draft 1)

The air was unusually thin like something could change someone’s life forever, and it did Selwyn walked down the road to his usual place to watch his grandson play baseball. He met his daughter Crissy on one of the separate pews in the grandstand. “Hi dad Bens just about to bat, he’s been waiting for you to arrive” Crissy said in her normally bouncy tone “He knows that I will always get here eventually get here I’m an old man remember?” Selwyn said in a playful tone he finally sat down in the deck chair styled seat and started watching the game in the distance a large crash followed by various screams and ambulance sirens. “dad I forgot to ask has your cancer tests come back “Crissy said with caring voice “nah hopefully today or tomorrow but I still think I will be here to annoy my cobbras for a while” every one started cheering suddenly bens team had just scored a home run “good on ya boy that was a fine bat” Selwyn said with his wise old grandfather eyes “Hey pop where’s nana?” Ben sounded disappointed “Josie’s gone to have breakfast with the girls but she promised that she would come as soon as she can” Selwyn’s voice was apologetic “oh sorry my phones ringing “ Crissy picked up her phone even though the number on the screen came up as UNKNOWEN “um hello how can I help you?” cautiously Crissy waited for a reply “ Hello you must be Crissy yes well its Dr Gysworth here how do you do?” “ um yes it is Crissy and g old thanks um are you form the hospital?” “Yes I am Dr Gysworth in charge of general operations and notifications “Crissy knew he was calling up about Selwyn’s caner test “will he be ok dose he really have cancer?” Crissy was nervous not wanting to hear his reply “unfortunately I have some bad news, Selwyn’s cancer tests came back positive ” “?” “what’s wrong with her?” suddenly memories of the crash that they had herd this morning flashed back into her memories her heart rate pumped faster than a greyhound in pursuit of a mechanical rabbit “has she had a car crash by any chance?” By now everyone was steering at Crissy wondering what she was on about “we’ll be right there “Crissy’s voice was solemn and her body was shaking as she told everyone what she had been told on the phone.

Selwyn was still confused about the whole thing not wanting to believe that his partner of 60 years would not walk beside him any more. Dr Gysworth eventually came out of the door “I...I’m so sorry we did everything we could” His voice was soft and caring “I am sorry about the timing but you could lose your father too if we don’t stop it” Dr Gysworth handed Crissy a white envelope with Test results and Confidential written on it Crissy immediately broke down in tears “Dad you have heart cancer” after that Selwyn’s world started spinning not believing that just yesterday everything was the was it should be.

Days passed and Selwyn got slower and slower test result after test result revelled that his blood type was very rare. Crissy was cleaning out her mothers old wallet when a mysterious aqua card suddenly fell out “a...a donor card?” her eyes suddenly scanned it for her blood type a perfect match! “I can’t believe it!” and for the first time in days she felt like there was still hope she called Dr Gysworth to arrange the operation and it was a success. But no one quite new how Josie Became a donor but Selwyn spent everyday with just a little bit of his loved one with him all the time.

ALEXA: Good Morning Ganesh or should I say Sebastian. Today I am going to start by asking you a few questions
ALEXA: Why did you join the rebellion?
SEBASTIAN: I joined the rebellion because I was the only one with a C that wasn’t branded so obviously on my face. I did it because I was the only one who could be on the inside without any one realising. I wanted revenge just because I was not as involved in the town as much as some people I was branded with a V. It changed my life .After a while I stopped becoming ashamed of it and started to build up the anger that I had trapped inside of me. When I was branded with the V I joined the rebellion because I felt that I owed it to the other criminals and vagabonds to help them because I could unlike others I hide my C. I thought you were smarter than that you insolent girl
ALEXA: Why did you use your power as the mayor of Turlock to manipulate your fellow mayors and Warvold?
SEBASTIAN: Saying that Warvold was a cruel man would be a lie even to a man who despises him as much as I do. When we were working on the wall he treated us the best anyone had treated us criminals for donkeys years. His kindness was as irritating and his suspicions were annoying it was like he knew what we were going to start planning the many years later. All I wanted was revenge as it was his guards that would beat us it was him that made me go slowly madder and madder. Since then I have been weary of everyone that is why I became the mayor of Turlock. Who would suspect that the mayor who helped to build most of Turlock was a vagabond? As for manipulating the other mayors and Warvold, anyone in my position would. These people branded me with something I could have been killed because of. Ha your precious Warvold wasn’t as smart as you first thought was he?
ALEXA How did you find out about the underground tunnels that led to the outside world?
SEBASTIAN: Because I spent all my time from my early twenties to late thirties building the walls I was one of the convicts who used the tunnels frequently. I was one of the convicts that helped build these tunnels you stupid girl. You are one of the reasons that I wanted to invade Birdwell stupid people like you who have no understanding of what it is like.
ALEXA: Why did you not get a job and stop yourself from becoming a criminal and a vagabond
SEBASTIAN: when I was given the V on my chest my whole life changed forever I stopped trying to change my life and instead I just harnessed my anger and transformed it into something useful that I could use to do what I want when I want. I am talking about my anger. If I hadn’t done that I wouldn’t be here today and I wouldn’t’ be about to kill you

ALEXA: Were you ashamed of being branded with a V and a C, if so is that why you grew a beard
SEBASTIAN: of course I was at first but then when I met my fellow men that were branded with the same things I learnt that we were victims. I don’t expect you to understand I mean you are the child of the mayor of Lathbury you were taught from when you could hardly talk that anyone with a V or C is a terrible man that is the only reason why I am ashamed because people judge they have every right to but they also have a right not to judge. Get off this subject now you are an incompetent girl who is unable to respect people’s privacy.
ALEXA: Why did you kill Renny Warvold?
SEBASTIAN: She found out my secret I could not afford to have my secret blown the rebellion was no where near ready. When I found out that she knew I had no choice but to kill her. I didn’t want anything messy so I simply slipped poison into her drink and that was that.
ALEXA: Why did you kill Warvold?
I killed warvold because it was the last thing that needed to be done to get the rebellion happening. I killed warvold the same way that I killed Renny poison. He was becoming much to wise he was very close to figuring out my secret. I couldn’t risk it not this close to the rebellion, all that hard work that I put into everything gone the minute that anything came out of that old mans lips. You useless lot would believe anything that ignorant man would say he said jump you said how high. I knew it would be just typical that you lot would figure it out eventually but you’re all too late too stop me now!
ALEXA: well thank you Sebastian for that insight into your life
